(I no longer work in physics, waste engineering or recycling, except to continue historical collaborations.)
I am working on a platform of transdisciplinary work which includes the following.
(Much more information available at: https://sberg.fudan.edu.cn/index.htm )
1) processes for groups to crystallize their tacit shared values (the WeValue InSitu approach) and their links/contributions to field like personal knowledge theory; sense-making; knowledge integration; SECI; transformative learning theory; rapid ethnography and recently starting in AI and neuroscience. 2) applications which open new domains in fields like sustainability indicators; social impact; EIA; ESG; legacy identification; Ecological Civilization; ecosystem services; indigenous knowledge. 3) impacts of using the shared values crystallization approach (WeValue InSitu) including transformative learning; organizational change; conflict resolution; shifts in self-awareness; self-mobilization of local peoples; sustainable transitions.
I can nominate tough PhD students to apply for full scholarships and stipends at Fudan University in China (email me before November each year; deadline in February for following September start) in any of the topics above. I also welcome postdocs with transdisciplinary experience: please apply immediately as I will appoint soon (2025).
学术兼职
1) 2018 Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts (FRSA) (invited).
荣誉和奖励
1)2024 China Government Friendship Award
2)2021 Shanghai City Magnolia Award (Gold) for services to internationalisation in the metropolis.
3)2016 Shanghai City Magnolia Award (Silver) for services to internationalisation in the metropolis.
4)2011 National China Thousand Talents Professor award
I teach on the basis that students are actively interested in learning, and will firm up the content and assessment methods around the needs of individual students to the greatest extent possible. This means I like to know your background, and where you think you are going to: I will then try to support you on that pathway within my segment of your education.
I believe in travelling across disciplinary boundaries wherever needed, respecting the need for further reading and understanding every time - and like students to do the same. I like to challenge students to think more critically, but try to do this at an appropriate level for them.
I believe that quality learning can also come from non-formal sources of information and disruption.
