Scientific Research


Leveraging Fudan University's strengths in interdisciplinary integration across the humanities, sciences, medicine, and engineering, the department advances the global frontiers of fundamental science while addressing major national needs in applied research.

From 2020 to 2024, the department secured nearly CNY 278 million (approximately USD 38 million) in research funding and undertook more than 30 major national projects, including the National Key R&D Program and significant initiatives of the National Social Science Foundation.

The number of high-impact academic publications from the department has steadily increased year by year. Over the past five years, faculty members have published more than 1,100 SCI-indexed papers as the first affiliation, including 20 articles in Cell, Nature, Science and their sub-journals. The department has also received over 30 awards at the national, ministerial (Ministry of Education), and municipal (Shanghai) levels.
