Cultivating objective and course design for undergraduate in Environmental Science Major of Fudan University

I. Cultivating objectives and requirements

The objective of the major is to cultivate highly specialized talents boasting of good political qualities and moral cultivation as well as solid basic theory, knowledge and skill in environmental science and capable to engage in environmental scientific research, teaching, technical development and management in scientific research institutions, colleges and universities, enterprise and public institutions and administrative department. 

Students are required to master necessary basic theories and basic knowledge in aspects including mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology and so on. Students are required to master strong basic theories, basic knowledge and basic experimental skills on environmental basic subjects including Environmental chemistry, Environmental engineering and Ecology; besides,students are required to receive the trainings of scientific thought and scientific experience on basic research and application research. Students are also required to have a good scientific quality and to have the basic skills for carrying out applied research, technological development and environmental management by utilizing knowledge which has been learned and experimental skills; Students are required to know the general principles and knowledge on professions; Students are required to master a kind of foreign language and to have more practical computer application ability; Students are also required to have stronger self-study ability and problem-analyzing and problem-solving abilities and to have the ability to adapt to social requirements in multiple aspects and to have a development potential; At the same time, students are encouraged to develop towards the interdisciplines including material science, life science and management science and so on by taking advantage of methods such as taking elective courses.

 

II. Degree and credit requirements

Students in this major must complete 140 credits targeted by the teaching plan before graduation, including 44 credits for comprehensive education courses, 28 credits for general studies, 54 credits for professional education courses (including 1 credit for production practice and 6 credits for graduation paper) and 14 credits for optional courses. Only students who complete required credits can be awarded a Bachelor of Science degree.
 
III. Course design
(I) Comprehensive educational courses (44 credits)
 
Students shall complete 33 credits in comprehensive educational course I and 11 credits in comprehensive educational course II (including 2 credits respectively in aesthetic education group and preliminary law course group)
 
(II) General studies (28 credits)
Students shall complete 28 credits in Preliminary Natural Science of general studies.
 
(III) Specialized courses: (54 credits)
